NO RUBS, NO STRAIN
No tight straps in places creating rubs, no rough stitches, nothing stiff and no buckles means no chafe on your dog.
The natural material of caribou fur - hollow hairs filled with air that make sure there is minimal friction on hair and skin - also means very little heat to the underlying muscle.
The harness puts no strain on the hips or lower back while resting above the shoulder joint to allow full extension of shoulder and front leg in motion.
RAIN OR COLD...
The design is the same, but the padding is different on the two different harnesses I make:
Use the original GENTLE when temperatures are below freezing.
Use the MUD in the season when it's above freezing and your dog might encounter puddles and muddy trails.
TESTED & PROVEN
"MADE BY HAND" in ALASKA
My name is Mille Porsild - I am a dog musher for +30 year and Iditarod sled dog race competitor. I make these harnesses sewing by hand and with my machine in Willow, Alaska.
The design started with a traditional harness given to me by the Chukchi musher Mikhael "Misha" Telpin born on the tundra in Chukotka, where he is a top racer and marine mammal hunter with his Chukchi sled dogs.
I have been working in the world of Iditarod and long distance sled dog racing since 2011 and we have been developing, testing and using this harness racing at the highest level of competition now going on 15 years.
Over the years I have searched to identify the optimal quality materials, and toiled on every detail of the design, to create a harness that is comfortable and gentle on the dogs in my team... and, delivers top performances when racing.
Two Iditarod Championships have been won with my GENTLE Chukchi harness -- so far ;-) In 2018 by Joar Leifseth Ulsom and now in 2025 by Jessie Holmes!
In 2021 I was awarded the coveted Iditarod Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award, designated to a musher whose team demonstrates outstanding care of their race team while remaining competitive -- and my team wore the GENTLE Chukchi harness.
